ACTIVE RELEASE TECHNIQUE HELPS

Every ART® session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. The ART® provider uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements.

These treatment protocols – over 500 specific moves – are unique to ART®. They allow providers to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting each individual patient. ART® is not a cookie-cutter approach.

  • Treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves
  • Effective in treating headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow
  • Especially effective when issues are the result of overused muscles

Michael Michaud RMT, ART, Vital Point Clinic, Ottawa

MICHAEL MICHAUD RMT, ART

Michael graduated from Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy in June of 1998 and has been a Registered Massage Therapist with the Ontario College Of Massage Therapist since October 1998. Early in his career he started working at various chiropractic, physiotherapy, and massage therapy clinics. Much of his development as a massage therapist was work he did outside the office with different sporting teams and organizations. He spent two years working with the Ottawa Lions Track and Field Club (1999-2001) treating athletes onsite and planning treatment programs with various track coaches to meet their athletes’ needs.

In 2003, Michael was contracted to teach the Sport Massage Therapy course for Kine-Concept Massage Therapy School in Ottawa. The students learned sports massage techniques in class, then applied those techniques under Michael’s guidance in treating athletes at sporting events. The class attended the National Capital Race Weekend, various triathlons, and indoor soccer tournaments.

In 2004, Michael started the certification process for Active Release Techniques. Completing the Lower Extremity, Upper Extremity, and Spine in the next two years  and successfully passing the practical exam of each course. In 2007, he added the Nerve Entrapment Certification from Active Release Techniques to his portfolio. Michael has attended various re-certification courses over the years and will continue to add other Active Release Techniques Certifications.

Michael has studied various massage therapy techniques by attending myofascial release courses, joint mobilization courses, ASIS stretching  and orthopedic assessment courses. To be a well-rounded massage therapist that treats many athletes he has taken various courses in exercise rehab, running biomechanics, athlete movement preparation and plyometric training for rehab and performance.

Michael is also an athlete and has been competing in triathlons in the Ottawa area for the last 12 years. He has completed an Ironman Triathlon in 10 hrs 40 min (2010 Canadian Ironman In Ottawa), has completed Half Ironman Muskoka and Half Ironman Tremblant and he placed in his age category at the 5150 sprint triathlon at Tremblant.

Michael also volunteers his time. For example,  last year he was team therapist for Ottawa Next Level Basketball. As well, he often guest speaks at various Running Room clinics to talk about the benefits of massage therapy, injury prevention and stretching techniques for running.
